I wish that we had a better time to take these images. During the time of this assignment is was rainy and overcast. So having a more sunny or typical summer/fall day would make this assignment easier and more artistic. Overall I think that my images came out well and I love them, and how I edited them! I also enjoyed learning about editing in Camera Raw Filter. It really allowed me to see a different side of editing that is new for me.
What photographer/artist most influenced your photos? Guirellma Amat, he has a very interesting eye with capturing things behind the focal point. What was your location and setting for your photos? Somerset Berkley Regional High School How did you use positioning of the mirror and camera to create your compositions? I changed the position of the mirror to capture what was on the other side of my feet. Were you able to create anything unexpected in your reflection? I think I was able to because you aren't really expecting the image I created on the opposite side. How would you describe your photos: unexpected? What idea/concept are your reflection photos about? I would describe my image as unexpected. Were you able to blur the line between illusion and reality? I am unsure I believe this has to do with the person viewing the images.
Making these cyanotypes was a lot of fun and I can't wait to invert all of my pictures and imagine them as a cyanotype and hopefully do more!! This process wasn't all the complicated but it was interesting to learn. First we turned our image into black and white, and inverted the image so that the original blacks are white and the original whites are black. We then printed the picture on transparent paper. From there we painted watercolor paper with the cyanotype solution. After the solution dried we put the transparent paper onto the painted watercolor paper and brought it outside to sit in the sun. The sun developed the image onto the paper turning the image different shades of blue.
What theme did you explore in your series? Emotion
How do your photographs show this theme? My images show emotion by photographing people in their purest state, expressing themselvesthought the things they love most. Ethan was playing the paino and just playing with notes, but for a while it was all deep, shallow, and depressing notes. Overtime the music got more cheerful and happy. Expressing his emotions without even knowing. Emily loves dancing and was showing her frustration and stress by rehearsing her dance call back for her first choice college.
Select one of your photos and describe the composition and visual movement of the work. Image 6. shows lot of visual movement for the eye. Moving up her leg and then to each arm and eventually her right leg. I made this image to put your eye directly to the center and then move up from there.
Select one of the following quotes by Larry Fink and explain how it relates to your series or one of your photos. When I’m photographing, I’m watching and reacting to patterns and rhythms coming together. I am also intensely aware of the principles of music when photographing. P16
This relates to my series because the entire time I was aware of there fingers, hands, faces, and body movement were placed. The same goes with music, if something is misplaced in music the whole piece is ruined.
Metaphor
Explain how one of your photos uses objects, colors, arrangement to express meaning. This mini series uses bandaids and wedding rings to express a meaning. What narrative, idea or phrase is your photo communicating? Band-Aids do not fix everything. How did you transform a commonplace photo of the object into an exceptional composition that expresses an idea? I used the simplicity of the band-aids and the rings to express a pretty dark meaning; even though this couple was happy at one point, they still fell apart, and tried fixing it with just a bandaid, but they will still never be back to normal happy days, there will always be something haunting them from the past.
